John & Martin’s Walk of Reflection
John Gibbs received the gift of a liver over 30 years ago. Martin Searle has received the gift of two kidneys, one in 1997 and then in 2015.
John and Martin have arranged a Walk of Reflection, taking place on September 19th at 11.00 am, at the start of Organ Donation Week 2021.
University Hospitals Birmingham Charity supports patients, families and NHS staff across five hospitals in the West Midlands – Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good Hope, Solihull and NHS Nightingale Birmingham.
Team transplant want to dedicate this “Walk of Reflection” to all medical staff, researchers and everyone who has made it possible for transplant patients to be able to cautiously move away from shielding. John and Martin say, “not only have they got us through this pandemic, but everyday through our transplant journeys they are doing an amazing job keeping us as well as we are able to be. This is our way of thanking them for everything they do. We will walk with a heavy heart for all those family members, relatives, friends or colleagues whom we have lost”. John and Martin will be joined on the walk by members of the Birmingham Adult Transplant Sport Team, other transplant recipients, nursing, medical and surgical staff and members of the local council.
We will be joined on the walk by Birmingham Adult Transplant Sport Team members, other transplant recipients from the Q. E. Hospital, nursing, medical and surgical staff from the Q. E. Hospital as well as kind hearted folks who live close to me.
